The current role of international school administrators has become that of hybridized educators, because of the many accommodations needed to blend new cultures, people, and other differences in ideologically constructed representations of their roles, in terms of culture, class, gender, race, and religion. To facilitate shifting back and forth between countries, I was compelled to shift my perspective again – from viewing myself as being of little worth, to regarding myself as an asset to the institution. In this book, I describe how the use of an analytic, auto-ethnographic, naturalistic methodology enabled me to investigate my fit/belonging in the roles of a prekindergarten teacher, a university educator, a principal intern, and a director of language and learning support at a private research university/international school in Turkey. The role reversals between researcher and participant allowed me to examine my own views of my role as an English Foreign Language (EFL) educator turned administrator – the primary participant – in relation to secondary participants’ perceptions of their roles.
