Описание
This reader contains a selection of works by the famous Soviet short-story writers Paustovski, Platonov, Gaidar, Antonov, Nagibin, Aitmatov, Shukshin, Rytkheu and others.
The book is entitled "Roads", and this central image runs through all the stories in the collection. In some stories the road holds interesting encounters for the characters, in others it is the path of life along which the heroes pass, either by choice or by chance.
The stories will help to acquaint the foreign reader with the life of Soviet people in various parts of the country: in Moscow and Leningrad, in the Siberian taiga, in the steppelands of Altai, in Chukotka, in Turkmenistan and Kirghizia.
The stories have been adapted to eliminate linguistic and semantic complexities and arranged according to their subject-matter and level of difficulty.
Each story is prefaced by short notes on the text itself and on the author's work in general. Any linguistic difficulties and interesting facts about Soviet life are explained in the Notes given at the end of the book. Also included are questions whose aim is to help the reader's understanding of the stories and to develop his skill in reading a Russian literary text. These questions are especially recommended for classroom use.
The book is intended for advanced students of Russian who wish to develop fluency in reading Russian literature in the original.
