Описание
Excerpt from London, Leek, Macclesfield, the Potteries, Buxton, the Seasons, the Farmers' Calendar: And Other Poems

Cheerful, bright and sunny memories, how delightful and pleasant they are. How gladly we welcome them, proving that, to a certain extent, we are happier for having been happy. Still, something more is wanted, mankind the world over, needs also present happiness and enjoyment, and is seeking it in a variety of different ways. Some in love, courtship and marriage find much pleasure when the course of true love runs smooth, pure and honourable; whilst some again may be looking forward to gaining position, wealth, or other attainments, in the future hoping then to be happy. Others wisely seek to improve and enjoy the social and domestic moral and spiritual pleasures and privileges of daily life - seeing the bright and cheerful side of things, and anxious that others also may enjoy the sunshine and pleasures surrounding the path of those who will accept and gather up these sunbeams and blessings. Let us endeavour to comfort and brighten each others' journey through life. If we can innocently amuse, cheer and instruct, those around us, we know it will not be in vain, for we believe in many instances laughter is better than medicine; and, that we need not have a long face in order to be virtuous. Would we reap happiness? let us in faith and hope sow seeds of loving kindness - sow to the spirit "for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."

To the parents, children, young men, maidens, husbands and wives of Great Britain may I be permitted humbly to dedicate this small volume of poems, hoping they may prove acceptable, pleasant and profitable, to many.
